Cover Concepts
The Rolling Stones sang ‘You can’t always get what you want’ and it’s so very true as a creative. Sometimes you layout an amazing cover simply to have the publisher trump your concept. It’s OK, these designs can live on. Here are some covers that were never published for any variety of reasons.

Issue 136 Character Cover Concept
Make-up artist Chloe Sens created this dystopian character at IMATS Los Angeles 2019. Clearly a stellar creation, I wanted to feature this make-up on the cover. However, we were also covering the film VICE which, the weekend before production, was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The production company rushed to send us an exclusive image of Christian Bale as Dick Cheney. It turned out to be an amazing cover as well.

Issue 131 Concept Cover
The Art & Design Issue of Make-Up Artist magazine is always crammed with work from the most talented creatives in the make-up industry. Photographer Stephanie Pehar and make-up artist Ashley Vierra collaborated on a Van Gogh inspired photo feature which I wanted to feature on the cover. The cover that went to production featured Oprah from A Wrinkle in Time.

Issue 131 Cover Concept - 'Seeing the Future'
Issue 135 had the wonderful challenge of too much good work! Deciding what the cover would be lead to many mockups. This is from the photo shoot with a group of up and coming artists in the industry. Featuring actress Juliet Landau, this shot was a fun one to capture.

Issue 131 Cover Concept
Make-up, headpiece and photo by Roque Cozzette. This very gorgeous image was also a contender for an Art & Design issue.
